Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 10, 2026
This policy explains what information Terra – Pinpoint It (“Terra”, “we”, “the game”) collects when you play, how it’s used, and the choices you have. We keep it deliberately short because the game collects very little.
What you can do without giving us anything
You can play Terra without creating an account, and we don’t ask for your email address, real name or location. You don’t have to post a score to play.
What’s stored in your browser
The game saves two small items in your browser’s local storage on your device:
- A random ID that lets the game recognise that this browser has already posted today’s score and highlight your row on the leaderboard. It isn’t linked to your identity.
- The display name you last typed when posting a score, so you don’t have to retype it.
You can delete these at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for this website.
What’s sent to our server
When you finish the daily game and choose “Post score”, the game sends the random ID, the display name you typed, and the five pin locations you placed. Our server calculates your distances and score and stores the ID, name, score, distances and the time. These leaderboard entries are shown publicly (name and score only) and are automatically deleted after a few days.
Please don’t enter your real name or any personal information as your display name. Anyone can see it.
Hosting and technical data
Terra is hosted on Cloudflare. Like most websites, our host and its network automatically process technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. The game also loads open-source map and graphics libraries from the cdnjs content delivery network, and, when you zoom in on the globe, high-resolution satellite image tiles from NASA’s GIBS service (gibs.earthdata.nasa.gov). Those services may receive your IP address in doing so. The home page also shows a “Play on Alldle” badge, an image loaded from alldle.net, which may likewise receive your IP address. We don’t use this information to identify you.
Advertising
Terra may display advertising from third-party networks such as Google AdSense. If ads are shown, those companies may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies to show ads and to measure and personalise them, including based on your visits to this and other websites. We don’t control these cookies and don’t share your leaderboard name or scores with advertisers.
- You can manage or opt out of personalised Google ads at adssettings.google.com.
- You can opt out of many other ad networks at aboutads.info.
- Google explains how it uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Where required by law (for example in the EU, EEA and UK), ads that use cookies or personal data should only be personalised if you consent.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell your personal information.
- We don’t ask for or knowingly collect your precise location.
- We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Terra isn’t directed at young children. If you think a child has posted a name or other information, contact us and we’ll remove it.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California privacy law), you may have the right to ask what information we hold about you, to have it deleted, or to object to how it’s used. Because we hold so little and can’t identify you from it, the simplest route is to clear your browser’s site data and wait for old leaderboard entries to expire. If you’d like us to remove a leaderboard entry sooner, email us and tell us the name and score so we can find it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page from time to time, for example if we add new features or change advertising partners. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
